The Story Behind Campers for Cancer
By Timothy Moran, Founder
At 50 years old, I began experiencing subtle but concerning symptoms—fatigue, shortness of breath,
and changes that didn’t feel right. What started as a routine doctor visit quickly escalated into an
emergency. Within hours of arriving at the hospital, I was told my blood levels were critically low and I
needed immediate transfusions. Soon after, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Like many people facing a serious diagnosis, my world changed overnight. My doctors recommended
specialized care at a major cancer center several hours from home. That meant leaving
behind everything familiar and relocating quickly for treatment—something many patients
and families are forced to do with little time to prepare. Treatment was intense and unpredictable.
There were complications, setbacks, and long periods of uncertainty. Physically, it was
exhausting. Emotionally, it was overwhelming. But one of the most difficult challenges wasn’t
medical—it was logistical. Being far from home created a constant strain. Housing was uncertain at
times, and the need to stay close to treatment added pressure during an already overwhelming experience.
Like so many patients, we found ourselves trying to figure out where to stay, how to stay,
and how to remain close to care—all while fighting for my life.
That experience stayed with me.
Because while there are incredible doctors, nurses, and support systems, there are still
gaps—especially when it comes to comfortable, stable, and affordable housing during treatment.
After months of care, recovery, and reflection, I was given the opportunity to move forward with my life.
I knew I wanted to use that second chance to help others facing the same challenges.
That’s why I created Campers for Cancer.
Our mission is simple: to provide peaceful, private RV accommodations for cancer patients and their
caregivers who must travel for treatment—a place to rest, recover, and stay close to care without the
added burden of unstable or stressful housing.
Because when you’re fighting for your life, where you sleep at night shouldn’t be another battle.
Campers for Cancer exists to ease that burden—and to give patients and families one less thing to
worry about during the hardest time of their lives.
Close to Care. Far from Stress.
